Author: Imrie, R.
Year: 2006

Abstract:

This book considers the role and significance of house builders in influencing the design and construction of accessible housing that can meet the needs of people with disabilities. A feature of this book is the exploration of disabled people's experiences of inaccessible dwelling spaces, and the role of law and regulation relating to the provision of accessible housing. The primary focus of the book is experiences in England and Wales, but there is substantial discussion of legal and building practices in the USA in relation to the physical access needs of people with disabilities. Includes case studies with pictures and an extensive bibliography.
