Accessibility: barrier free building design

Status Report - The Quarterly Newsletter on Disability Issues in Alberta

Author: Wickman, R.
Year: 2000
Type: Journal Article

Abstract:

This brief article is one of a four part series on incorporating accessibility during construction and renovation of publicly-used buildings. Critical for making the exterior area of any building accessible to persons with disabilities is providing a required number of accessible parking lots and a barrier-free path of travel to the building's interior. The author provides an Accessible Parking Checklist which he used to help him design new buildings or analyse existing buildings in order to make recommendations towards renovations to the parking lot.
