Access for People with Disabilities: Kerb Ramps

Author: CSIRO Building Construction and Engineering Building Information Resource Centre,
Year: 2001
Type: Report

Abstract:

This Building Technology File is intended to supplement and expand the information given in AS 1428–1998 ムDesign for Access and Mobilityメ, Part 1 ムGeneral Requirements for Access – New Building Workメ, and to give general guidance on access. The material in AS 1428.1 is incorporated in the Building Code of Australia. These criteria apply to the design of buildings and alteration work to existing buildings, and the detail of the exterior environment such as pavings, parking spaces and kerb ramps. The design of kerb ramps is a crucial determinant of barrier-free access. The on-site installation of kerb ramps is equally important if they are to be fully usable as intended.
