A model for service coordination between mental health and adult protective services

Journal of Mental Health & Aging

Author: Dayton, C., Anetzberger, G. J., Matthey, D.
Year: 1997
Type: Journal Article

Abstract:

Collaboration, partnership, service coordination, & integrated systems are commonly used terms in strategic plans & agendas of governing boards & councils. Shrinking resources & changing public policies have combined to redirect organizational energy to solutions for client needs that cross agency boundaries. The benefits & challenges of service coordination are analyzed & illustrated in the context of two presenting problems that are inherently complex & demanding: mental illness & elder abuse/neglect. Recommendations are presented based on a model of coordination in the field of aging developed in Cleveland, OH. The problems are described, & the agencies that undertook the coordination compared & contrasted.
