A model for implementing color contrast in the environment of the elderly.

The American Journal of Occupational Therapy

Author: Acherson-Cooper, B.
Year: 1985
Type: Journal Article

Abstract:

Much has been written on the use of colour as a functional facilitator in the environment of the elderly, but little information is avaialable on how to implement it. This paper a) restates the main age-acquired visual defects, b) critically examines the literature in the use of environmental colour and c) proposes a model which incorporates the factors that enhance visual clarity and Joahannes Itten's rules of color contrast. Implicit in the application of colour to enhance vision is a clear understanding of the main functional purpose of the area to be heightened.
