A model of the housing market in urban Amsterdam (Netherlands) is developed using socioeconomic data on spatial relocation behavior, & found to be a good tool for predicting future housing demand patterns. The household dynamics model is constructed using multiple demographic factors & analyses of spatial aggregations in the highly restricted Dutch housing market. The overall structure of the model (vs that from empirical results) is emphasized. The accounting framework stresses the demand side of the housing market, because Dutch housing policy places great importance on housing needs & preferences. The household life cycle model is composed of state matrices (household composition matrix, occupancy matrix), a migration model, & an allocation model. It takes into account the complex factors of household dynamics: birth, aging, death, separation, reuniting, dissolution, marriage, cohabitation, & other influences on household arrangements. The equations & mathematics for each matrix & the model as a whole are provided, and applications discussed.
