This is a A Five Point Plan detailing a Vision for aged care in Australia in 2020 by The Myer Foundation. The Vision calls for reform in the administration and funding of Australia's aged care system to ensure high quality, flexible and affordable care is in place by the time the baby boomers reach old age from 2020. Key reforms identified in the Vision's five point plan include: Improving community care services, so older Australians can live in their own homes as long as possible as they age; Separating funding for the accommodation, hotel (or living) and care components of aged care services; Increasing public resources to fund high-quality care services; Identifying new short and long-term sources of funding for aged care services; Streamlining the administration of care, so that government responsibilities for health and aged care programs are aligned to increase accountability, optimise planning and ensure efficient care delivery; Developing innovative, accessible housing arrangements to minimise the impact of illness and disability on people's living arrangements; Promoting the delivery of community services to support people at home; Developing an aged care industry plan to deliver quality care; Developing new technologies.
