Abstract:

A survey questionnaire was mailed to 1,145 paraquad members with a physical disability aged over 50 years. In addition, interviews were conducted with 45 older people with a physical disability. The exceptionally high response rate highlights the importance of housing and support issues for older people with a physical disability. The research confirmed that housing and support options for older people with a physical disability are extremely limited. It also identified, that the overwhelming concern for the older people with a physical disability was, securing continuous support. An underlying theme in both interviews and survey responses was the desire to stay in one's home for as long as possible.
