Consumers and Carers

Home Modifications are changes made to the home environment that could assist people with disability and older people to be more independent and reduce the need for ongoing assistance. Modifications to the home include changes to the structure of the dwelling e.g. widening doors, adding ramps, providing better accessibility etc. and the installation of assistive devices inside or outside the dwelling e.g. grabrails, handrails, lifts etc. In this section you can find useful information such as publications, DIY guides, links to legislation and Government/Community Programs about Home Modifications, that will help you be safe in your own home and reduce any risk of injury to carers and careworkers. Also, you can search for a Home Modification provider in your area or discuss with other consumers and professionals in the Home Modifications Discussion Group.
