A Core Standard program has been developed to support nurses and carers in providing consistent, efficient, and good practice when supporting people with a disability. Nurses play a vital role in the care and interventions of a person’s Communication and Behaviour Support needs. This should ensure better health outcomes when supporting people with disabilities. The Communication and Behaviour Support Core Standard encompasses a collection of resources including a practice guide and an appraisal in this topic area.
The Core Standards are designed to complement an organisation’s policies and procedures, rather than replace them. There is flexibility for each organisation / individual nurse to decide if, how and when the Core Standards will be used within their work place.
All of the Nursing and Health Care Core Standard resources can be found on the internal and external websites http://web.archive.org/web/20080913124626/http://dadhc-intranet.nsw.gov.au/client_services/community_access
