The Practice Improvement Framework (PIF) is one of the long term systemic solutions developed by Clinical Innovation and Governance to improve work practice in specialist behaviour support within the government and non-government disability sector.

They are:

  • Philosophy, Values and Beliefs
  • Working Alliance
  • Professional Supervision
  • Service Delivery Approaches

The Positive Approaches to Behaviour Support Core Standard is a self-paced e-learning course. In addition to this, practitioners have the opportunity to apply the concepts through Work Practice Support or Professional Supervision over a twelve month period utilising an Appraisal process. Following on from the Positive Approaches to Behaviour Support Core Standard are six Extension Skills Topics and a number of Advanced Skills Topics.

Extension Skills Topics

  • Relationships for a secure life: Behaviour support through an attachment and complex trauma lens
  • Behind the aggression: Supporting people with an ID who engage in aggressive behaviour
  • Supporting people with Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Mind matters: supporting the mental health of people with an ID
  • Listen up: Engaging with people with an ID who hurt themselves
  • Making sense of sexual behaviour: Providing support for people with an ID

Advanced Skills Topics

  • The Creative Clinician
  • Problematic Sexual Behaviour in Adults with an Intellectual Disability
  • Personality Disorder and Intellectual Disability

Target Group All ADHC and NGO staff who are in the role of behaviour support practitioner or are providing specialist behaviour support services are encouraged to complete the Core Standards modules.
