The Essential Medical Equipment Payment

Published

The Household Assistance Package is helping millions of Australians who need help the most with ongoing assistance and tax cuts. The Essential Medical Equipment Payment is part of the Household Assistance Package.

The Essential Medical Equipment Payment will be available to eligible Australians. You may be eligible if you have additional home energy costs because you need to operate essential medical equipment. This can include medically required heating and/or cooling in your home if you need it to manage your disability or medical condition. You also need to hold or be included on a Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card to receive the payment. Visit humanservices.gov.au/cleanenergy for more information on your eligibility.

The Essential Medical Equipment Payment will be $140 during the 2012-13 financial year, and will be indexed annually in line with the Consumer Price Index.

You will need to apply for your first Essential Medical Equipment Payment. After that, you will continue to receive the payment automatically for the following years as long as you are still eligible. You will need to let us know if your circumstances change, as this may affect your qualification for the payment.

Applications can be lodged now at humanservices.gov.au/cleanenergy by selecting the Online Services option. For more information visit humanservices.gov.au/cleanenergy
