The Enabling Block Library

Published

The Enabling Template Block Library is a freely available website providing accessibility design tools in a variety of 2D and 3D digital formats. These downloadable drawings and models will arm architects, designers and stakeholders with a better understanding of space and other environmental requirements for the safe and effective access of a range of mobility and accessibility products.

Standards Australia’s updated Access and Mobility Standard references (AS1428- 2009) reference a new A90 wheelchair as the basis of its new dimensional standards. Currently no CAD block representation that matches these newly regulated dimensions is easily and freely available. Another example is the NSW Ambulance trolley. Unrestricted access of an ambulance trolley becomes a very important issue for those with increasing health care concerns, however for those who are redesigning a residential or shared space there is currently no freely available resource for the current size and circulation space requirements of this important health care product. The Enabling Template Library is a crucial step to facilitating the participation and social inclusion of the aged in both private and public space design and redesign.
