This Daily Telegraph article (via realestate.com.au) examines the impact of Sydney's rental housing shortage on tenants who are elderly or living with a disability.
Renters with limited mobility struggle to gain consent from landlords for much needed modifications. Some tenants have been forced to live in unsuitable homes, where they have been unable to shower or access bedrooms.
In April last year, the National Construction Code was updated to incorporate basic accessibility standards, however NSW has yet to adopt the requirements.
