Online courses promoting knowledge and understanding of dementia

Published

Dementia Training Australia (DTA) offers a range of eLearning courses for people who work with people living with dementia.

Our courses are short, mobile friendly, and cost free to the learner.

Two of our courses are aimed at promoting knowledge and understanding of dementia among the community and home care workforce. They give a basic overview of dementia, and how it can impact a person’s ability to perform daily activities; and responsive behaviours, and how they may be a response to unmet needs. These two courses are also relevant for residential care settings.

Another course, Bedtime to Breakfast, explores person-centred care at night for people with dementia. This course covers general education about sleep, strategies for supporting people with different sleep needs and preferences, and health and wellbeing tips for staff who work night shift.

Our medication management course is a practical guide to the use of antipsychotic medication for responsive behaviours in residential aged care facilities. The course also explores non-drug strategies.

Our GP course helps GPs and Primary Health Care Nurses recognise, diagnose and manage dementia.

Caring for LGBTI People with Dementia assists health and aged care workers and organisations to provide inclusive care and services for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people living with dementia.

DTA is funded by the Federal Government to provide dementia education and training across Australia. Our mission is to improve the care and wellbeing of people living with dementia, and the staff delivering their care.
