New Independent Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission

Published

The Minister for Aged Care, the Hon Ken Wyatt AM, MP, announced that a new independent Aged Care Safety and Quality Commission will bring together the functions of the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency, Aged Care Complaints Commissioner and aged care regulatory functions of the Department of Health, from the beggining of 2019. The regulatory functions of the Department of Health will move from 1 January 2020.

An independent Aged Care Safety and Quality Commissioner will lead the Commission and report to the Minister for Aged Care. The new Commissioner will be supported by an advisory group.

A taskforce within the Department of Health will soon be established to implement this work.

Other changes include strengthened risk profiling of providers and more information for consumers about the quality of care being provided.
