New CHSP Guidelines - effective 1 July 2018

Published

Michael Bleasdale, Managing Director for MOD.A, had met with the new Assistant Secretary of the Home Care Branch (Department of Health) in Canberra at the end of April, to continue the regular dialogue established with the Department about how home modification providers are faring under My Aged Care (MAC) and the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP). These meetings are useful to address issues and problems that members encounter when delivering home modifications to older people under CHSP. Some of the problems that were being experienced initially around assessment and referrals were the subject of the Accelerated Design process, something which MOD.A continues to monitor.

At the meeting the Assistant Secretary, Nick Morgan, indicated that the new CHSP Guidelines were now available and would be applicable from 1 July 2018. The CHSP Manual has also been updated, a document about which MOD.A was consulted and proposed a number of amendments. These apply mainly to the sub-programme descriptions of home modifications and maintenance and to some scenarios in the Guidelines that now reference our services. There still appears to be some confusion, however, between home modifications and home maintenance, and MOD.A will continue our dialogue with the Department to help them better understand the nature of the services we provide.
