Commencement of the Disability Reportable Incidents scheme in NSW

Published

The NSW Ombudsman's office has notified us that from 3 December 2014, all NSW funded providers of disability supported group accommodation iwill be required to notify the NSW Ombudsman of ‘reportable incidents’ involving people with disability.

The Disability Inclusion Act 2014 provides additional powers to the NSW Ombudsman to oversight reportable incidents in disability supported group accommodation under Part 3C of the Ombudsman Act 1974.

The intention behind the Disability Reportable Incidents scheme is to ensure, wherever possible, that people with disability living in supported group accommodation can live free from abuse, neglect and exploitation.

Ahead of the start of the scheme, notification forms and fact sheets will be available on the NSW Ombudsman website, www.ombo.nsw.gov.au, to help you to understand and fulfil your responsibilities.
