Changes are coming to the residential building industry

You and the people you work with may have new obligations under the Design and Building Practitioners Act 2020, which commences on 1 July 2021.
 
​​​​​​​Among the changes are two new registration schemes for class 2 building practitioners, including:


​​​​​​​Some practitioners will also need to declare their designs comply with the Building Code of Australia, and lodge them on the NSW Planning Portal before work can start. Body corporates are able to register as part of the Design and Building Practitioners Scheme.

We are introducing these changes to restore confidence in the residential construction industry and make sure that apartments being built are trustworthy.

These changes start from 1 July 2021 but you can get ready now. Find out how you can prepare.

Final regulation now available
Thank you to those who provided feedback on the draft Design and Building Practitioners Regulation via the NSW Government's Have Your Say website. The changes made in response to the feedback are explained in a Consultation Report.
