Article: From glasses to mobility scooters, ‘assistive technology’ isn’t always high-tech

Published

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates one in three people will require assistive technology within their lifetime.

This article, published on The Conversation Website, examines recommendations made by the recently released WHO and UNICEF Global Report on Assistive Technology. The article examines the top recommendations from this report within an Australian context - with the identification of many shortfalls.

The Home Modification Information Clearinghouse is mentioned as one of the few resources available to Australians where information and resources on enabling environments is collated and shared.

The article concludes that the WHO and UNICEF report provides a roadmap for the incoming Australian government to involve users and their families in change.
