Two free human rights resources have been released. These are developed by National Disability Services (NDS) for the sector through the Person Centred Approaches Program (PCAP).
The PCAP aims to embed human rights as underpinning the shift towards more personalised services and supports. NDS hopes these resources will be useful to considering human rights within the context of your organisation.
Adopting a human rights based approach – Advice for Boards of disability service providers
Boards have a critical role to play in creating a human rights culture within their organisations. This brief 15 minute video explores the what, why and how of adopting human rights based approaches.
It includes interviews with people with disability, a CEO and Board Members. It is designed to start a conversation around human rights at a board level.

An Introduction to Human Rights in Disability Services - A training program for Disability Support Workers in New South Wales
This free online training explores what human rights are and how disability support workers can apply them in day to day practice. The program involves:
• Five interactive online training modules• Each module takes about 20 minutes to complete• Modules can be done all at once or spaced out over time• The modules can be completed individually, in pairs or as a team
A competency tool is also available to support organisations to assess staff competency. The training program and competency tool are available on the PCAP project page.
