Universal Design Summit 5: Creating Livable Communities

May 6-9, 2013 in St. Louis, Missouri

As North America’s only recurring conference exclusively focused on universal housing and neighborhoods, the conference goal is to bring about community integration and participation while enhancing the independence of all people at home and throughout their daily lives. Universal Design Summit 5 continues the tradition of providing exceptional content on universal design in housing, sustainable community design, and affordability to create living environments usable by all.

Universal Design is inclusive, attractive and never obvious; it integrates features that improve function and usability for everyone. It is a superior approach to design and construction that can be achieved in all house sizes and at all price points.

We all need to pay attention to changing customer demographics and preferences. Whether you are new to the field or have a lot of experience, the Summit has new information that you can use. We invite you to register for the UD Summit 5 beginning in December of 2012.

 

Call for Presentations!

Submissions are due by November 1, 2012. Presenters will be notified by November 30, 2012.

Presentations will occur on Tuesday, May 7 and Wednesday, May 8.

Each will be 60 minutes. Session Topics are listed below.

 

In exchange for each session delivered, the presenter will be granted a free one-day registration. Presenters will be responsible for their travel and lodging.

Session Characteristics

• Concurrent session: 60 minutes in length.

• Shared sessions: two presenters with related topics may share some sessions.

• Repeated sessions: due to the topic, some presenters may be requested to repeat their sessions.

• Programs, initiatives, projects, or examples that have an explicitly universal audience and outcome, e.g., programs, projects, or findings must clearly show that benefits are accrued by broad user groups, that solutions are applicable to general use circumstances and embrace marketable solutions. Can be newly built or remodeling examples.

• Remodeling programs, initiatives, projects, or examples that are customized to a particular individual’s or household’s functional needs, e.g., home accessibility modifications.

      • Pedestrian rights-of-way

      • Community planning and design
