On Monday 16 August, 6pm – 8pm there will be a seminar at the Public Defenders Office on the Proposed Asia-Pacific Regional Disability Rights Tribunal Presenters: Greg James, Mental Health Review Tribunal NSW Yoshikazu Ikehara, Attorney-at-Law, Tokyo Advocacy Law Centre, Japan Rob Ramjan, CEO, Schizophrenia Fellowship NSW Professor Terry Carney, Faculty of Law, the University of Sydney, NSW Chair: Dr Astrid Birgden, President, ANZAPPL NSW Branch There is a proposal underway for the establishment of a Disability Rights Tribunal with jurisdiction in the Asia-Pacific. Yoshikazu Ikehara is one of the drivers of this proposal and to date has presented in Japan, Korea, Thailand and Cambodia. This is an important opportunity to participate in the discussion around administration of the CRPD in the Asia-Pacific and the establishing a mechanism to improve and maintain standards of disability rights across the region.
