What is the NSW Home Modification and Maintenance Services State Council?

The NSW Home Modification and Maintenance Services (HMMS) State Council is the peak organisation for the HMMS industry in New South Wales. It represents 92 Home Modification and Maintenance Level 1 services, including 13 Level 2 budget holders and 1 Level 3 budget holder across New South Wales. The NSW HMMS State Council is committed to representing the interests of service providers and ensuring optimum client outcomes are achieved.

To unite and enhance HMMS across New South Wales.

Aim

To provide support and a collective “think tank” to promote best practice and outcomes throughout the State.

Focus

State Council’s focus is to strive for excellence, equity and continuous improvement whilst valuing the diversity and the unique contributions made by HMMS and other stakeholders.

The role of the NSW HMMS State Council

  • Advocacy and lobbying for the industry within the Community Sector – particularly with regard to funding
  • The development and provision of resources to the HMMS industry
  • The dissemination of relevant information to the HMMS industry Liaison with our primary funding body, the NSW Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care (DADHC), relevant Commonwealth Departments, the Department of Health and Ageing and other politically relevant entities
  • Liaison amongst and within other NSW peak body organisations
  • Intra and inter-sector networking for HMM service providers
  • Website development
  • Facilitation and development of training initiatives for HMMS
  • Facilitation and development of social entrepreneurship within State Council and the HMMS sector
  • Co-ordination and management of the biennial HMMS State Conference
  • Identification of projects for the Executive Officer to initiate and complete
  • Financial administration of State Council funds and income

What is the role of a State Council Member?

A State Council member is an employee from the Level 1 HMMS who has been elected to represent their region at the NSW HMMS State Council. State Council members work collaboratively with State Council’s Executive Officer and State Council collectively as a group. State Council members address the major issues identified by the HMMS. State Council members must have:

  • a commitment to the HMMS process and industry
  • demonstrated knowledge and experience of the HMMS industry
  • demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with individual HMMS

Membership of the New South Wales Home Modification and Maintenance Services State Council

The New South Wales Home Modification and Maintenance Services State Council will consist of delegated persons from each of the 13 regions throughout New South Wales. Members for each region are elected every 2 years at Regional meetings and announced at the Biennial HMMS State Conference. The Executive Office bearers are elected every year at the December Annual General Meeting by the other Panel members. Each member of State Council must be a financial member of the NSW HMMS State Council. Membership will be registered and collected by the Executive Officer of State Council who will maintain an updated record at all times.

Meeting Times

The NSW HMMS State Council meets four times per year - on the first Monday and Tuesday of March, June, September and December. The Executive Office Bearers also meet between these meetings to discuss and resolve pressing issues.

The NSW HMMS State Council has appointed specialists for their industry expertise and consult with them on relevant matters.

The Specialist Occupational Therapist's role is:

·         to provide specialist information on occupational therapy information and services to the NSW HMMS State Council; ·         to be involved in projects which have been nominated and approved by the NSW HMMS State Council and which require the expertise of an Occupational Therapist;  and ·         to review all Non-Recurrent Applications and Non-Recurrent Occupational Therapy Brokerage Applications (Quality Assurance Rectification Program applications will be reviewed only when necessary).

The Specialist Technical Officer's role is:

·         to provide specialist advice on technical information and services to the NSW HMMS State Council; ·         to provide specialist advice on technical information and services to the NSW HMMS State Council including the Building Codes of Australia and relevant Standards ·         to be involved in projects which require the expertise of a Builder which have been nominated and approved by the NSW HMMS State Council ·         to review all Non-Recurrent and Quality Assurance Rectification Program applications.

What is the role of a Regional Technical Officer?A Regional Technical Officer is a nominated skilled licensed Builder or Supervisor who is experienced in the Home Modification and Maintenance Services industry. They are appointed specialists who provide:

·         technical assistance/advice for the Home Modification & Maintenance Services within their region

·        mentoring to other builders in their region·         inspect and furnish reports for Quality Assurance Rectification Program Applications·         inspect and sign off on Level 2 and Level 3 work in their region.
